Appreciating the NOW

Time isn’t precious at all, because time is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time: It is because we always think we are out of time.

Time is NOW. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time; the past and the future – the more you miss the NOW, which is the most precious thing there is. Life is NOW. Life is meant to be lived; we only live once and we can only live in this moment – NOW.

There are many who’s always chasing time; time is never enough or time is too limited. We’re living in a world where talents are hired for their efficiency and resourcefulness. Everyone is emphasizing on being the fastest; records for the best and greatest. All these create a mind where we’re too focused on the future; that the present moment is being ignored.

When I look around my working environment, I often see people frowning and stressing over tomorrow’s plan, next week’s meetings, next month or months of important events; but mostly over targets & goals set to be achieved monthly and yearly. Of course it is important to be aware of each step to get ahead, to move forward and ensuring goals/targets are achieved. However, the best ideas and creativity at work doesn’t come from forcing the mind to move to the future even before future comes. It is being aware of NOW, the presence that would allow us to think clearly and plan better.

It is also the appreciation of the NOW that keeps us alive and happy.
If you don’t agree with me, maybe it is because you have not experience the wonderful feeling of being in the NOW.

Ways to be in the NOW:

1. Meditation
2. Breathing exercise – concentrating on inhaling & exhaling
3. Observe & study an object in front of you – the texture, the colour, the shape, the scent, etc
4. Watching the sunrise - appreciating the beauty of nature always work for me!
5. Playing ball or tug-a-war with your pet or children for 10 minutes!

**Basically anything that will not make your mind wander off into the past or fly far and wide into the future will do the trick….**
